The story behind Omega Liberté
In April, I left Instagram and Facebook. Later I also switched off Google Discover. No statement, no farewell post — I simply no longer wanted to be part of a system that treats my attention as a raw material. The attention economy is not a theory: in the social networks, your clicks are measured, materialised and sold. I think that is terrible. And I have been sensitised to it ever since.
At the beginning of October 2026, something else reached me: ArtCraft. A few AI-enthusiastic cracks started rebuilding the entire Adobe suite — Photoshop, Illustrator, whatever film studios and creatives otherwise rent at high cost. Open, free, astonishingly good. The thought that came to me: if AI can rebuild productive software — why not an unproductive one? Software that produces nothing — one where it is not you (as it was me until a few months ago) who is the product, with your attention.
By that point I had already learned a lot. In September I had built RADAR 724, a small static newspaper site, on Mistral and GitHub. Then my own Björn page — this time not with an editor, but built entirely by Claude. And then I asked Claude: build me a social media page — but with local storage. Data under the user’s control. No server. The only thing touching a server would at most be a ping endpoint that receives no data.
That became KOMPASS. By now it can do a lot: it reads podcasts, YouTube and the free web together and tells you what is happening in the world. It scrolls like Instagram — except that on the other side there is not an algorithm, but my own sources. The data stays local, syncable via WebDAV — with my Magenta cloud, for example. A beautiful interface, built in a day. That alone is impressive.
The moment it clicked
For a short while I went back and forth: am I trying to build the next Facebook? A million people downloading the app for five euros? No. For one thing, it would not work anyway. For another, I would be a gatekeeper again — responsible for data, for content, for everything I had just walked away from. I do not want that. And the chance that could grow out of this undertaking would be squandered.
And then, on 21 October, the reverse thought: give the whole thing away. Not the app — the recipe. A new kind of software: the AI builds this system on your machine. For you. For your community too, if you want. Talk to others about it: I am there too. I have my own social media. You can fork it, you can develop it further — or simply install and use it. I use mine.
The offer
Here is the template. You can install it. You can adapt it, name it, improve it, pass it on. Every version is an approximation — none reaches Omega.
This is Final Freedom. The chance to be free. Independent. Sovereign. Above all over the one thing that in the end is truly yours: your attention.
This is the way.
This is OmegaLiberte.
